Los Gatos, CA (PRWEB) August 24, 2009 -- SkillsUSA has appointed PowerProduction Software's CTO, Paul Clatworthy, & Matthew Nelson, President of Suite Imagery, Technical Co-Chairs for Video Production. SkillsUSA is a national organization that coordinates a partnership between industry professionals, teachers and students who work together to ensure America has a skilled work force. Video Production is just one of the technical and skilled-professions which SkillsUSA added in order to teach students of high school and college/postsecondary a valuable skill for the expanding occupations surrounding media communication.
Paul Clatworthy has professional experience in news and film production (directing, editing, producing and post production sound), a master degree in film production from the University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts where he also taught. Matthew Nelson has been involved with video production since starting his first production company in 1992, while working on his Bachelor's Degree in Business Marketing at University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He's produced and directed many promotional and training videos for businesses over the years, as well as overseeing the production of the 62 volumes of the royalty free animation collection, ActionBacks.
Paul and Matt have a great grasp of both technical and artistic skills which makes them perfect candidates for SkillsUSA Video Production according to Moe Broom, Board of Directors, SkillsUSA.
As the CTO of PowerProduction (maker of film/video production software), Paul explains his philosophy towards today's media production. "Technology is critical to America's future growth and therefore an important part of education. With today's access to video equipment, video production has become essential to most businesses who need to communicate and compete for customers and clients. So whether it's commercial, entertainment, or instructional video production, there is a growing need for students to be visually literate...to know how to speak in images, to communicate ideas and tell stories; how to use the equipment to its potential to inform as well as entertain."
Matthew Nelson adds, "I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience at SkillsUSA 2009. Seeing all the students involved with all aspects of the production process at such a young age was a great inspiration. In 2010, working together with Paul Clatworthy as co-technical chairs in the video production competitions of such a high quality organization will be a great privilege."
While serving as a judge of the National Video Production Competition, Clatworthy also shared his experience as a director using software he helped develop at PowerProduction. He assisted students during classes in preparation for the video production division of the competition. The competition encompassed storyboarding, shooting and editing video projects of a specific content within a specific time period. He explained that "storyboards are really a great way to learn how to direct a project, especially if one has never stepped into those shoes before. And if someone has directing experience, then they already have made the realization of how important visually planning a project is for making a successful project."
SkillsUSA organizes this event, and it is considered the single greatest day of industry volunteerism in America.
PowerProduction Software and StoryBoard Quick are proud to be supporters of SkillsUSA.
